The Hollenhorst laboratory studies glycoproteins that play critical roles in hemostasis and thrombosis (bleeding and clotting). Platelets and coagulation factors are heavily coated in glycans (carbohydrate polymers) which are essential for healthy function of the hemostatic system. We are interested in understanding how these glycans regulate the structure and function of hemostatic glycoproteins, and modulate the anti-platelet immune response. We welcome students who want to perform cutting-edge research using the tools of chemical biology to dissect platelet and coagulation factor glycobiology. Our ultimate goal is to improve the lives of patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders.
